Pete's Page
Pete Ritchie is the owner of Whitmuir Farm, along with Heather Anderson, his wife and partner. Over the last 30 years, his working life has covered his dual passions for justice and sustainability. Having spent the first two decades working to improve life opportunities for people at risk of devaluation (Pete was Director of SHS Ltd), Pete has spent the last decade researching, writing and campaigning for a sustainable food system.
For his day job, Pete runs Whitmuir Farm and Whitmuir the Organic Place. The farm stocks 6 different livestock enterprises and endeavouring to grow over 30 different types of vegetables and crops. All of the farm's produce is sold directly through the farm butchery, shop and restaurant. Pete is also a founding Director of the Breadshare Bakery located on the farm. The farm also hosts bee keeping facilities, an organic flower growing enterprise, an apothecary's garden and community allotments.
Pete is Chair of Nourish, a campaign working to ensure we grow more of what we eat and eat more of what we grow in Scotland. As well as instigating many initiatives to campaign for a fairer food system, he has written extensively on food policy issues relating to sustainability and justice. He regularly informally advises on food policy issues and presents to diverse groups, from European wide policy groups to local transition and gardening groups.
